Why we built Snag Scout

Snag Scout started with my father. For him, a new-build home was the reward for a lifetime of hard work — and when he became seriously ill, he set out to build it anyway. He moved in, but the house was full of problems, and putting them right became a battle. When he passed away in 2022, I took it on, and our family has lived with it ever since.

This was never just about us, though — and it isn’t anti-builder. The best builders turn up, take pride, and put things right; I saw it firsthand when a local builder rebuilt the house next door, proud of their work and keen to show it off. They get tarnished by the few who don’t, and they deserve to stand out from them.

So Snag Scout is built for both sides: a fair, independent record where good builders earn the recognition they deserve, and no buyer is left in the dark. You can read a thousand reviews for a £10 gadget — but for the biggest purchase of your life, all you get is glossy brochures. We’re here to change that — fairly, for everyone.
